Ed Watson

July 25, 2007

Had Ed watson, songwriter in the studio on Monday completing his track “Love Only”. Ed wrote the ballad on acoustic guitar. The instrumentation we decided on was acoustic, bass and drums, the sparse arrangement suited the song well. Vocalist Raff was brought in to sing and while he was in the session he also added three tracks of electric guitar in an Indie Rock stylee which really brought the track to life.

Mum for breakfast! (not literally!) - Iain’s blog

July 21, 2007

Well I’m making my lovely Mum breakfast again today. She’s 81 and so young at heart and in spirit. I absolutely love doing it for her. When I was 11 she bought me my first guitar from Woolies for £10 and when I was 12, I convinced her to get me a Fergusson stereo  reel to reel recorder which was definitely the start of my recording career. i must have been making a god awful racket at the time, I don’t think she understood what kind of music I was making but she never once complained about the noise. Thanks Mum! Long may your lum reek!!!

Ric Tod - Iain’s blog

July 21, 2007

Been working with Ric Tod on creating songs for artists with distribution deals. Ric comes in with lyrics and a melody for a song and I work out the music for it. It’s something I’m doing more and more these days and it’s challenging but very fulfilling. It’s fascinating when you work with others and just trust you can make something out of nothing. Surprising things always happen and results you don’t expect just confirm the magic of music when you take a step into the unknown.

Working on the new web-site today and after finishing the text side of the site we are getting around to posting podcasts of frequently asked questions etc. Have put up a recording tips section today which has some juicy information for budding engineer/producers or just musos who make their own recordings. We will be adding to this over the next while as well as adding videocasts of some production tricks.

Christine Robbins-Iain’s blog

July 16, 2007

Well today is the final day for Christine’s debut Gospel album “It’s A New Day”. the album is more or less complete and today we are doing the finishing touches to a few tracks before mastering the album. It was started in May this year and took most of June to produce. Christine, from Sierra Leone, came in and sang the songs acapella style and I  created the music around her vocals.  I found the whole experience of making this album very uplifting and inspirational and am convinced it will be a huge hit in the world of gospel music. Before making this Gospel album, so far I’ve made music for Tibetan Buddhist Centre Samye-Ling, Sufi music form Senegal, and an album of Tarot music and various Christian albums, Elan Vital and my fair share of the the “devils” music :-)) since I became a producer in the early 90’s…. definitely offbeat!
